Socitm report released: A new model for council website development

Councils must make radical changes to the way they govern and manage their websites

A council's website to do list: Solve and complete the list with Capita's Connect

The world is moving relentlessly towards digital delivery, and the council’s website has become critical to it’s ability to deliver services effectively at lower cost. Consequently, the role and performance of the council website has become an issue for the top team.

Too many council websites, specifically the 58% achieving two stars or less in Socitm’s comprehensive Better connected assessment of all council sites published earlier this month, are not up to the job.

Making the necessary changes cannot be left to your web team: it needs to be driven by top management, as it explains in the 20pp briefing, available to Socitm Insight subscribers to download now, and others to order, from:
http://www.socitm.net/downloads/download/529/better_connected_2012_a_briefing_for_the_top_management_team .

Socitm is also running an event on the findings from Better connected 2012 (BC12) in London on 18 May.This will focus on implementing a ‘top tasks’ approach to website development. The programme features:

  • Keynote presentation from the Government Digital Service (GDS)
  • Making the leap from one star to four star ranking in the Better connected survey: the experience of two councils in 2012
  • Workshops on key tasks assessed in BC12
  • The rise of social media as a channel for service delivery.

Places are limited, so find out more and book now at http://www.socitm.net/events/event/255/.
