In December 2007, RCT Homes became Wales's largest social landlord when it took over the ownership and management of the entire housing stock of nearly 11,000 homes from Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, spread throughout more than 60 housing estates and in 27 sheltered housing schemes. At the same time, RCT Homes also became the UK’s first ever Community Housing Mutual – where tenants can control the organisation's decision-making
RCT Council contracted to Capita Housing suite in Dec 2005, which was subsequently transferred to RCT Homes in 2007. RCT Homes already had their own inhouse-developed contractor system that was over 10 years old. They had no mobile working facilities and found it difficult to operate appointments, and in some instances not possible at all. The appointments system was also not integrated with the rest of the organisation’s database. RCT Homes also relied heavily on agency back-office staff.
Watch the video case study to understand how the partnership with Capita has provided RCT Homes with software enabling them quickly to improve organisational efficiency gains. The Capita Housing solution has also helped reduce voids and numbers of empty homes, integrate systems, increase communications and records of work within the organisation and between tenants, speed up completion of contractor jobs and, most importantly, improve customer choice and satisfaction.
Together with its emphasis on tenant empowerment and social inclusion, and the implementation of innovative technologies from Capita, RCT Homes sets itself apart in the sector. Their work with hundreds of staff and their investment of millions of pounds is changing life for many of their tenants.
