Working closely with Capita Software Services, two neighbouring councils offer their citizens a range of convenient and highly secure payment options.
Background
In 2007, two West Sussex councils - Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council - formally agreed to enter into a joint working partnership for the delivery of their local services using a single workforce and senior officer structure.
The challenge
In late 2008, the partnership started to explore the opportunities that a shared service solution could bring in the area of payment collection.
The solution
The implementation was carried out as a single project, with joint project planning sessions and the opportunity for shared training sessions.
The benefits
Terry Cutler (Finance Manager) had a key role in the selection of the new system and outlined some of the major drivers behind the project, stating ‘We wanted to replace our existing systems with a shared service that could support a range of convenient payment channels and was PCI DSS compliant. The shared service option made for markedly reduced costs, both as regards procurement and also in the on-going management and maintenance overhead.”
Next steps
Adur are part of the CenSus partnership, which includes two other councils within the county, so the solution brings with it the potential for payments to be taken on behalf of other councils within the partnership.
